5 Ways to Protect Your Joy

201: going deeper practical tips wisdom Dec 05, 2022

Let’s be honest, sis -  we allow too many of life’s blows, the wrong people, and our circumstances to attempt to steal our joy! Happiness can deplete because of these external factors, but to be honest, I don’t believe that joy is something anyone can truly steal.

Let me remind you:

  • Joy is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). As a result of Holy Spirit inside of us, joy is within us.
  • In the presence of the Lord is the fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11).
  • We are called to rejoice in the Lord always (Philippians 4:4).
  • We can find joy amid life’s trials because God can do a great work through our situation (James 1:2-4).

Our perspective and understanding of our salvation, who God is, and who we are through Him can help us maintain joy even in the worst of times.

We know that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), which means he’s attempting to come for our joy, too! Check out the tips below for protecting your joy despite your circumstances.

It's Time to Protect Your Joy!

1. Establish boundaries

Set them and stick to them! If God’s presence is the source of our joy, be especially mindful to protect your time with Him. Even Jesus had boundaries!

2. Protect your ear gates

The power of life and death is in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Sometimes people speak their insecurities, false beliefs, brokenness, lack of faith, etc. over us and our circumstances. Test everything against the Word of God and listen with wisdom and discernment!

3. Find gratitude

Begin to seek out ways to be thankful in every circumstance. You will find that it becomes easier the more you put it into practice.

4. Evaluate where you’re seeking joy from

Remember it comes from God and no one can steal that from you! It’ll never run out, so if it feels like it is, evaluate if you are seeking Him for it.

5. Cultivate a space of peace

The source of our joy is not from outside circumstances, but we can cultivate an environment of peace as we seek God! Try going on prayer walks, worshiping while you self-care, tidying up, etc. to seek joy from a place of peace.

Remember that you are a daughter of the Most High God and can fight every attempt of the enemy to snatch your joy, Praying for a lifetime of joy for you, sis! Love ya lots 💕
