21 Attributes of God

101: the basics god spiritual foundations Dec 05, 2022

What are the inherent qualities of God? How do we understand who He is and what He is like?

If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions, you can find God's inherent qualities (or attributes) throughout the Bible! We learn them from how God describes Himself, interacts with creation, and how Jesus describes Him. Although we honestly can't fully comprehend or even describe all of who our awesome God is, we can certainly learn and study what He has given us through His Word.

3 Reasons Why We Should Know the Attributes of God

Reason 1: They deepen our relationship with Him.

As we build relationships with people we want to get to know them more, right?

The same holds true in our relationship with God. By exploring His Word and learning His attributes, we take the time to get to know Him more.

Reason 2: They help us recognize what is and is not of Him.

How can we know if something (or someone) is from God when we don’t know what God is like?

Sometimes we end up in some unnecessarily janky situations when we can't identify who He is.

We also may find ourselves searching in the wrong place for something God inherently possesses. That could lead us down the path to false gods before we know it.

Reason 3: They're a COMFORT!

Our human capabilities are finite, but to know that we are children of an infinite God?! When we don’t feel loved, we can find comfort that God's love is SO deep that nothing can separate us from it (Romans 8:38-39).

When we feel shame, we can find comfort that when we confess to Him, He forgives us as if it never happened (Hebrews 8:12). I could keep going but you get the picture.

21 Attributes of God

The list below is not exhaustive, but it’s a great start to understanding who God is! You have 3 scriptures for each attribute because Father, Son, and Holy Spirit right (te he 😅🤭)?

A prayer for you

Whether we believe it or not, these attributes are who God is. If your current circumstances have you struggling to see Him for who He is, pray this prayer below and study those scriptures on that attribute. I promise when you seek Him with all your heart you will always find Him (Jeremiah 29:13), and as you draw near to Him He will draw near to you (James 4:8). Love ya lots 💕
